Each week, students will explore a different country or region of the world through the visual arts. Students will keep a portfolio of maps, artwork and facts about each place we study. Students should bring a water bottle and may bring a snack (no nuts please). Students should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for art-making. Smocks are provided.

Uke Can Do IT! Beginner Ukulele

This class is for adults and teens who have never played the ukulele. Learn basic chords, how to read and play a few melodies, and how to perform together as an ensemble. Students bring their own soprano ukulele to class (the most popular kind) and a folder for sheet music and handouts. End of our last class, we will invite our families and friends to a short recital and celebration.

This class is for adults and teens who can play several ukulele songs with confidence, read a chord chart, read ukulele tablature, and strum and sing at the same time. This session, we will be adding to our repertoire with songs from the 1920s-1950s spanning a variety of musical genres. Students bring their own soprano ukulele to class (the most popular kind) and a folder for sheet music and handouts. Last class session, we will invite our families and friends to a short recital and celebration.

SHADOW BOX ASSEMBLAGE WORKSHOP

Over the course of two Friday evenings, participants will create an intriguing 3-D shadow box assemblage. The instructor will guide you in composition, use of materials, how to choose colors to make images “pop,” and technical construction of your art piece. Participants may bring copies of small photos, greeting cards, fabric, old letters, broken jewelry, and other small objects. Shadow box frames, paint, adhesives, balsa wood, specialty papers, images to collage, fabrics, scissors, drawing and painting implements, and a variety of small objects provided.
